My nephew got married this past weekend, and their color scheme was just gorgeous! I got "commissioned" to digi scrap their wedding album. I am really looking forward to working with these colors! I'm starting to build a file of papers and elements that will work ~ doing some recoloring of stuff I already have to match, but I need to find some white roses. If anybody sees any digiscrap stuff that would work well, give me a shout!

Free Halloween Quick Pages

Playing with Halloween layouts today ... one I made last year and a new one today. I designed the keyhole papers and black witch on orange background papers. I love using vintage postcard elements on my layouts! I have been sticking to 8 x 8 layouts because they are easy to print at home. If you purchase an 8 x 8 album and try to do one or two layouts a month, it's easy to keep up with scrapping your year! :)

Free Digital Scrapbook Paper

I am just starting to dabble in making digital scrapbook papers. Most of the digital scrapping layouts I do presently are 8 x 8 so that I can print them on 8 1/2 x 11 sheets of paper with my inkjet printer. So that's what size this is (maybe 8.25 x 8.25) because that's what the album sleeves measure for my 8 x 8 album. There should be no problem resizing this to a 12 x 12 though, and if you'd like to add some grungy texture for a different look, that would be an interesting option too. Free for your personal and/or commercial use!

I have been having such a ball with digital scrapbooking this year. I am especially appreciative of all those digiscrap designers who post their freebies for our personal use. Their generosity is amazing! So to "give back", I thought others might enjoy my handmade fabric flowers for digiscrapping. I made the flowers, took the photos, and used my PSP program to exact them without a background (png file). Just click on the image, which will take you to a larger screen, and you can then click on to save. They should be the perfect size to use on cluster frames.

Free Halloween Hang Tag!

Here's a free Halloween hang tag I designed ~ It should print out around 2 1/2." Just right click on, and select "save as" to save to your computer.

If you'd like a larger one, this one prints out a little over 4 1/2."

The small one would be great for a coat or sweater pin (you can buy the pin backs at any craft store like JoAnne's, Hobby Lobby or Michael's). Just trace a circle a little larger than the image on the backside of some wool or felt, use pinking shears to cut it out, then glue the image (which you have printed on 110# cardstock), onto the wool or felt, and glue the pin back on. Voila!

After deciding I wanted to keep my primitive art separate from my design work, I started the "Adele Lark Graphic Design" shop. Shortly afterwards, circumstances changed drastically with the economy (hubby was without a job, and I wasn't helping much to make ends meet with my little "cottage" industries). I embarked upon a career change and started a course of study in the health care field, which has not allowed me to pursue graphic design as much as I would have enjoyed. Missing Graphic Designing

While I struggle to motivate completing my healthcare online courses, I find myself missing graphic design so much! Playing a bit today, I created a primitive "Wool Collector" tag for you...

It should print out about 3 1/2" wide. Just click on the image to take you to a new window, then right click on and choose "save as" to download to your computer. After printing out, glue to cardboard, chipboard, or card stock, then sand and rub the edges with some distressing ink.

I should be studying...

...my medical billing/coding courses, but I'm having such a hard time being interested in this particular field. My younger sister works in billing/coding for an Oncologist in Atlanta, and she says that 20 different codes are required for each procedure. It's a highly analytical type of job, doing the same thing all day long. Whew! I'd rather be playing with graphics.

I wanted to sign up for graphic design, but I didn't think I could earn any money at it. All the digital design web sites I've been visiting lately are either "selling my entire store" or have a sales category for "starving artists." But heck, the economy is still bad these days, no matter what your chosen field. Sure wish it would get better soon, but we've been saying that for 2 years now. It can't last much longer, can it?

Custom Vintage Design Available!

This week a previous customer contacted me with a request that went something like this:

"Can you take the Santa from that one template you have listed; I love the candy background! ... But use the victorian girls from the other template that is also listed, and make me a Christmas template?"

I love working with a general concept, taking the customer's input and being inspired to come up with a design I hope they will like! Sometimes it's back to the drawing board, but I've been lucky. Those who come looking for my services have usually purchased a template from me before, and my designs I think speak to them. I try to mix it up so that I design different styles that will appeal to people looking to compliment their own style. "Primitive" is kind of hard for me. I've got too much "shabby" in me!

Free Vintage Postcard Images

Finally, I got some time to scan many of my vintage postcards and uploaded them to my flicker account.

These were uploaded into my Photostream, as well as the Flicker Group ~ Collage Images (NOT FOR POSTING ART), with no restrictions on use. These are my personal cards which I cleaned up and edited in Paint Shop Pro, and may be used for your personal artwork, artwork for sale, or any commercial use.

It is so difficult to find free use vintage images, and so many businesses who sell these vintage images put a lot of restrictions on them or want to profit unreasonably from commercial use. I just want to give them to you all freely and hope you enjoy them!

Freebie for Digital Scrapbooking

Messing around a little this morning, I created this 8 1/2 x 11 digital scrapbooking paper. Seems like my day isn't complete unless I have dabbled a little with some type of graphic design! I love the concept of digital scrapbooking, but there's the whole thing about sending off your finished products for printing that I can't really get into. But, if like me, you like to pick up frames at 50% off at Hobby Lobby to frame your latest favorite photo, you can whip something up pretty fast, and print it out at home. I think you can probably even crop this background image to adapt it to your needs.

Free Digital Scrapbook Quick Page

Okay, be kind, I'm just starting to "play" with making digital scrapbooking pages, so if anyone has any tricks of the trade as far as sizing them and then saving them to upload here, or any other pointers: P-L-E-A-S-E let me know! I want to be able to give you something that you can use.

This "quick page" is 12 x 12, the standard scrapbook paper size. It was so challenging to work with graphics this size ~ very different than designing eBay templates or Blog banner sized graphics.

So! Here's a page for you to play with. I have saved it as a ".png" file so that there is no graphic layer in the photo frame. If you have a photo software program, you should be able to drop your photo in the blank frame, then tell it you want the page layer to be arranged as the "top" layer. Let me know if it's useful for you and I'll work on some others....Click on the image and then save to your computer.

Near the bottom right corner there is a journal "card." If you're anything like me, that's one area of scrapbooking in which I was always remiss!

Working on New Designs Every Day!

Today I finally persuaded my sister to get a photo of her vintage lithograph print I have long admired. It's called "Fragrant Flowers," a "Litho in USA" by Morris & Bendien, Inc., New York. It's original owner must have loved it very much as well ~ it was professionally framed in Chicago, Illinois. Sissy emailed me the photo she took today, apologetically noting that there was a faint reflection of her hand in the yellow rose. I'll have to keep after her to get a better shot, but I did design a Logo around it today...

With signs of spring peeking out at my house (I found 2 crocus this past weekend!), I'm leaning toward the lighter, pastel, pretty colors when designing. Other inspiration includes my latest quilt magazine as well which features a new glorious line of RJR fabrics from Robyn Pandolph ~ "Sumptuous Living". No one does it better than Robyn! These prints are absolutely mouth watering, and I couldn't resist sending off for a jelly roll!

NEW Vintage Easter Auction Template Listed

It took a little longer to build a new eBay template today ~ I've been doing research with Seller Sourcebook and the eBay Community discussion pages, as well as firing off comments to eBay, in an attempt to obtain some concrete information about when the listing page width is going to be changing. Seller Sourcebook responded almost immediately, advising that they do not know the date, but that eBay is going to be enforcing the width change at 900 pixels. In reviewing the new listing pages (you should have the option now to see the new design when you are looking at an auction), it scales out to be more like 920 pixels.

My new Easter template has been sized to the 920 pixel width, and whether you look at it in the new design page, or revert to the old one, the scale of it looks nice and it flows well. The biggest difference you will have is getting used to seeing all the "white space" on your computer screen. I don't know what eBay is up to with that, but I'm thinking we shall soon find out.

New St. Patrick's Day Template!

Well I finally completed listing my first auction template under the new eBay ID today! O MY Gosh, what a riggamarole for someone who would be doing this as a first time seller! I have over 1000 feedback on my other listing ID, and I couldn't believe how difficult it was. When I pulled up the listing form, I was unable to list as "Buy-it-Now", and couldn't figure out what the deal was. I finally ended up calling eBay and she told me you either had to have 10 feedback to list "Buy-it-Now" or be ID Verified. None of this is transparent on the eBay website, so I can surely understand how a new seller might get aggravated and give up. Anyway, enough of my chewing the rag! Here's a snapshot peek at the newest St. Patrick's design ...

Welcome to my Graphic Design Blog!

I just know someone is going to see that I have a new blog and come over here to take a peek! ...Or maybe not! LOL!

My initial blog, "Sew Dear To Me," has become a mish mash (is that a word? I think I've been living in the South too long...), of my graphic design work and primitive art. Recently I decided I need to divide the two interests, particularly because I am giving some thought to opening a graphic design website in the future. Presently I offer Blog Banners, Logos for business websites, Newsletters, and/or eBay auction templates.

Today I created a new eBay account under the ID "adele*lark*vintagedesign." Probably a dumb move, because I will have to start all over with zero feedback, but in the long run, I may also look at opening an eBay store. It may be less expensive as far as the listing fees, but I need to do some further research.

As for the name on my blog banner ~ My real name is not "Adele Lark". The name originated after a lot of "free association" brainstorming! I began researching Victorian era names that appealed to me ~ Ettie, Nettie, Maddie, and Hettie, but somehow the name "Adele" came up. My mother's middle name is Adele! And since my journey into graphic design was on a whim, and I adore birds, I thought "Lark", then joined the two. Now that I think of it, it's sort of the same method I use when designing graphics. I didn't want to pigeon-hole my style, so "primitive," "attic," "trunk," or "parlor", etcetera, wasn't considered in choosing my new name, even though those words do convey the era I prefer to illustrate in my designs.
